  • What Is PVC Pipe Used For?
  • PVC pipes refer to thermoplastic pipes made from polyvinyl chloride. These pipes are versatile and durable. Owing to its numerous applications, it is arguably one of the few pipes accepted universally.

PVC pipes are typically used for underground wiring and large-scale irrigation. Also, due to their ability to resist large disruptions or vibrations, they are used in sewage pipes. Furthermore, these pipes are inert and hence used by water corporations for transporting water to residential areas.

In this article, we discuss several applications of PVC pipes, the different types available, what they are made of, their uses, and the pros and cons of using PVC pipes.

  • WHAT MATERIALS ARE USED FOR WATER SUPPLY AND DRAINAGE PIPES?
Cast iron, PVC and ABS for plumbing waste (drain) lines
Chromed Brass, copper, galvanized iron, CPVC and PEX for water supply lines
Main construction pipes are usually made of cast iron, PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene). Older homes may still have lead pipes that need replacing. Black iron is used for normal gas pipes.

SHOULD YOU CHANGE YOUR PLUMBING PIPES?
You can use lead pipe if your house was built in the first half of the 20th century. Although lead pipes last a long time, they can introduce lead into your water supply, causing irreparable health damage.

If your home was built between 1970 and 2000, you may have polybutylene (PB) pipes in slots or that are much more likely to burst.

If you have lead or PB pipes in your home, talk to a professional plumber to replace them as soon as possible. There are much better materials available now, including PVC and PEX. Your new supply lines can last 100 years (about 80 years for your copper lines) and your water supply will not have molds, cracks or bursts.

Other signs can be taken from your plumbing piping’s utility rooms, among other signs, are retained water, which may indicate the pipe is rusting, and bubbling drains, which may indicate a problem with your main construction line. If you encounter any of the signs of removing and replacing this plumbing pipe, contact your local professional plumber before the situation worsens.
